Atlanta Streets Alive came back to Virginia-Highlands, Poncey-Highlands, Inman Park and Old Fourth Ward again this weekend! Despite being overcast (which actually made it pleasant) it was very well attended.
If you don't know about it, they shut down Highland Ave, Boulevard and North Ave (last year it was only Highland) to vehicular traffic, and pedestrians walk and ride bikes along the route, and local businesses and individuals set up stands or have activities. It's pretty cool.
The event is organized by the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition. They have done excellent work through the years promoting cycling in Atlanta, from bike lanes to education campaigns.
Of course for me, the most interesting part is checking out all the bikes. There's every sort of bike at this event: old steel road bikes, mountain bikes of all levels, track bikes, custom bikes, high end racing bikes, traditional commuters - pretty much everything.
There were countless cool bikes that I didn't snap photos of, but here's a bunch that caught my eye for some reason of another. Enjoy!
Great day, happy people (well, minus a few motorists who were angry they couldn't drive down North Ave - one lady even flicked off the police officer at the intersection). But you can't make everyone happy.
