2016 GPCX - Race Review

Now I'm more than a little biased, but GPCX is one of the best CX races in GA. It draws a good crowd, the fields are fast and deep, it's intown so I can ride my bike to it, there's a farmer's market, and Grant Park is a cool venue and course.

Always a fun crowd at GPCX!

Last year it was one of the later races of the CX season, and this year it was the first. The weather was mild and we haven't had any rain so the course was dry and fast - and twisty. Really twisty. Not my strength.

I course marshaled before the race, which is always a fun way to watch the other races unfold. I quickly picked up my race number (there was pretty much no line) and then stood my post.

Then I previewed the course twice, and the second time I got around the CX4 field was already 4 deep waiting at the line - this was about 15min before the start. Luckily I was able to find a spot up along the side to start in a higher position.

Because the course was so fast and technical I was already a bit resigned to not placing well, which of course results in not placing well. I was also still a bit foggy from an epic night out on Friday night. Regardless, I finished mid pack and got a great work out in.

And with that, here are some bikes that caught my eye - enjoy!

Def seeing a bit of a trend of people sanding down and painting their bikes solid. The Oval wheels make me suspect this was a Fuji.

Another SS Fairdale - looks like these must belong to the Loose Nuts guys and gals.
